Recent events and trends regarding the needs of an ever increasing population have led us to one of our primary goals, which is to feed the world in a healthy and more environmentally friendly manner. Our team is dedicated to the alleviation of poverty and hunger.
Despite years of progress in crop production and numerous commitments from the world’s wealthiest countries, it is still estimated that between 950 million and 1.1 billion people suffer from extreme hunger. This suffering amounts to approximately 14% of the world’s population. It is also unacceptable that approximately 1.4 billion people in developing countries live in extreme poverty, defined as living on less than $1.25 a day. These statistics are more fully detailed in the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization’s 2011 report. It was also noted that approximately 75% of the world’s poorest people live in rural areas and depend primarily on some form of agriculture for their daily livelihood. We are confident of our ability to help alleviate many of these hardships in different areas of the world.
Providing these countries with the ability to produce their own food and create meaningful employment is an essential element of our company’s mission and continued development. It is a worthwhile goal and one that we feel can be achieved. Our plan to address the need for better and more efficient food production will have the following characteristics:
- The production of a better quality of food while also protecting and conserving our natural resources;
- Enabling people to secure reliable access to nutritious foods through local, stable, and well-functioning food supply systems;
- Reduction of waste and the loss of nutrients historically associated with traditional farming and transportation.
